Don’t let the lousy weather drive you indoors to an overcrowded gym where it’s hard to stay motivated. We’re sharing our favorite options to help keep your fun and fitness resolutions alive longer for 2012.
Snowshoeing at Grouse Mountain
If you can walk, you can snowshoe’ergo, you can do the Snowshoe Grind, a 5K trek up through a winter wonderland. It’s called the Grind for a reason, and should take about an hour, but just imagine the fun of running back down through the snowy drifts. Snowshoes are available for rent at the Fireside Hut.
Cross-Country Skiing at Cypress Mountain
It’s been said that if classic Nordic skiing is akin to classical music, then skate-skiing is rock and roll. In either case, the energy expended to push those long skinny planks along hard packed snow sets records for caloric burn. Cypress’ Nordic area is open from 9 am to 10 pm daily, no reservations (or resolutions) needed.
