The holiday break is so close, we can taste it. And we know that after a day or two of watching movies and playing board games, the kids will need some outings to burn off steam and broaden their horizons. But after shopping for everyone on our list and playing Santa, we’re in need of free or (pretty darn cheap) adventures. So here they are—a list guaranteed to ward off cabin fever and keep the holiday spirit high.

Toronto Christmas Market
Check out the Toronto Christmas Market at the Distillery District this weekend before it closes on December 20. The lights and vendors are spectacular, as is the the life-sized gingerbread house, and while there’s a fee for the Ferris wheel and carousel, note that seeing Santa is free. The market is free on weekdays (not to mention much less crowded) and $5 on the weekends.

A Roaring Twenties Christmas at Spadina House
We love the 1920s and we’re stoked to be able to see them come to life—holiday style—at Spadina House. Truth be told, we also love the art deco gas range in the kitchen and the kids are all about cider and treats. The holiday smells and mistletoe do a great job of filling us all with the festive spirit. Admisison is $5.75 for kids 6-12 years, and the littles are free.

You’ve got two whole weeks to fill, but not to worry. We’ve found 11 more free (or budget-friendly) activities and outings in T.O.
