Steak with Balsamic Strawberry Sauce

You’ll Need

  • 4 strip loin steaks, ½"–1" thick (or steak of choice)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 Tbsp steak seasoning
  • ⅓ cup beef broth
  • ⅓ cup balsamic vinegar
  • ½ cup strawberry preserves
  • Garnish (fresh parsley and sliced strawberries)

Prep and Cook

  • 1
Pat both sides of the steak dry with a paper towel then season with salt and steak seasoning, pressing the mixture into the meat.
  • 2
Preheat a lightly oiled skillet or grill to medium-high heat and cook the steaks, 2–4 minutes per side, depending on desired doneness.
  • 3
Transfer cooked steaks to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.
  • 4
To make the glaze, combine the broth, vinegar and preserves in a pot and bring to boil. Reduce the heat to medium, and cook until reduced and thickened.
  • 5
To serve, spoon sauce over steaks and garnish with fresh parsley and fresh strawberries.
  • 6
This recipe was tested with store-bought and homemade jam. The sauce made with store-bought jam was more flavourful and thickened more quickly.
  • 7
Purchase no-salt-added steak seasoning in order to control the amount of saltiness added to your meat.
  • 8
The sauce was tested on chicken and pork chops and tasted great with both.
  • 9
If grilling the steak, place the ingredients for the sauce in a small saucepan and cook it on the barbecue as well. No need to turn on the oven if it isn’t necessary.

It seemed to me that a salty, gingery, garlicky marinade would do well on little bites of meat you dip and pop into your mouth.
