I made a version of these rolls for our Monday morning editorial meeting this week. It was the first time I tackled the recipe, and while I thought they were tasty, I could easily see where some improvements could be made.
Upon returning home, I made them again and tweaked the dish to fix a few of the imperfections. In my opinion, the original version didn’t have a great ratio of dough to filling, and the glaze definitely needed a hit of cream cheese. What I have for you now is a perfect Christmas morning breakfast that can be prepared in advanced and baked in the morning while you open your presents.
Don’t be intimidated by what looks like a lengthy list of ingredients’most of them you’re sure to have on hand already. The recipe comes together quickly and easily, and the bulk of the work is in waiting for the dough to rise’but, if making sweet dough from scratch is not your idea of fun on Christmas Eve, I have a secret shortcut that will help you make these rolls anyways: use store-bought pizza dough in place of the ingredients listed in the recipe. Let it rise as per the package directions and proceed with the remainder of the recipe, beginning with step 4.
Happy Holidays!
