There is excitement in the air as we head into the Holiday Season and with that excitement comes many fun family friendly events all across Ottawa in December (and the National Capital Region, of course). There is a variety of events throughout this month and your family can explore the city in a variety of ways. Whether it’s through experiences, shopping, or theatre there is something for everybody.

Jurassic Quest
ROAR into December by visiting the EY Centre December 2-4 for this event that you won’t want to miss! Jurassic Quest is your dinosaur loving childs dreams come true as they visit the largest and most realistic dinosaur exhibit in North America! General admission tickets include access to the dinosaur and marine exhibits, arts and crafts and special dinosaur shows.
Magic of Lights
The Magic of Lights is a magical drive through experience that brings holiday joy to you and your family as you drive through one of Ottawa’s favourite traditions! You are also supporting CHEO as funds raised from this event go to the local children’s hospital. With thousands of lights to explore your family will love seeing familiar scenes lit up and brought to life. Beat the line ups by heading to Wesley Clover Park for the holiday fun right at dusk on a weeknight (Mon-Thurs).
Nutcracker at the NAC
Throughout the first weekend of December you can enjoy The Nutcracker at The NAC. Approximately 2 hours in length, including intermission, this is a great introduction for those with children who are ready to explore theatre. Theatre may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of family friendly events but watching the magic of the Nutcracker is an unforgettable experience for many children.
Ottawa Christmas Market
Head over to Lansdowne Park for the Ottawa Christmas Market with more than 35 vendors and special musical performances you will want to come ready to shop and prepared to nosh on some yummy treats! With lots of activities on site for children, including Breakfast with Santa, crafts, Santa’s Village, a sensory Santa and more, check out the calendar before heading out for a visit.
Alight at Night Festival
Upper Canada Village is home to Alight at Night from December 1st through to January 7th. Grab your tickets online ahead of time (tickets are exclusively sold online) as time slots sell out quick and arrive on site dressed warmly to explore outdoors as you walk through at your own pace and enjoy a magical experience. This is a true winter wonderland experience that will leave your whole family in awe.

The Log Farm
The Log Farm is your one stop shop to get your Christmas Tree and shop for handmade ornaments, wooden toys, candles and yummy homemade food. You can experience “Christmas Down On The Farm” where you can enjoy a family wagon ride, visit Santas Workshop (bring your letter to Santa to drop off!), and feed the animals at the farm.
Vintage Village Of Lights
The Cumberland Heritage Village Museum is a staple in the Ottawa community as it awaits you to experience a 1920’s and 30’s village lit up and festive. Dress for the weather for this outdoor experience and don’t forgot to stop by to visit Santa! A highlight for many year after year is the take home cooke decorating kit so you can continue the experience at home.
