Rain can put a real damper on your plans. But it doesn’t have to mean your day out with the kids is a total wash. Rain puns aside, these attractions and activities in the city are great ideas for planning a fun day with the kids, while still staying indoors.
Were To Go on a Rainy Day in Toronto With Kids
Cinesphere at Ontario Place
A movie on the big screen at the iconic dome at Ontario Place—open after six years of renovations—is a quintessential experience for any Toronto kid. It also has serious nostalgia appeal for many adults who have fond childhood memories of movies the world’s first IMAX theatre, opened in 1971.

Rock Climbing Gyms
Indoor climbing is a great way for kids (and you!) to do something active no matter what the weather. Kids love the sense of accomplishment of climbing a huge vertical wall—and they are often able to do it just as well as the adults. Here are some family-friendly climbing options in and around the city.

Trampoline Parks
On a day when quiet indoor activities just won’t cut it, a local drop-in trampoline park is the perfect active option. Parents can jump or not (depending on your child’s age) and there’s no learning curve: kids don’t need any instruction to get busy bouncing, flipping, and jumping into pits filled with foam blocks. It’s a no-brainer!

Ontario Science Centre
If you’re bored at the Ontario Science Centre, you might be asleep. You could fill a week with all the activities inside these walls: live science shows, a science arcade, experimental play zone, an indoor rainforest, Toronto’s only planetarium, and hundreds of hands-on displays. Some advice: go in with a game plan and some “must-sees” to avoid running out of steam.
The ROM
Enormous dinosaur skeletons never cease to amaze kids and grown-ups alike. A tour of the Royal Ontario Museum‘s Age of Dinosaurs gallery is a must, but other hits with kids are the spooky, pitch-dark Bat Cave, the life-size mammals in the Gallery of Biodiversity, the mummies in the Ancient Egypt wing, and hands-on fun like digging for bones and dressing up in medieval armour in the Discovery Gallery.
Aga Khan Museum
A museum dedicated to Islamic civilizations past and present might not seem like a home run for kids, but this spring, the Aga Khan Museum has a cool new exhibition all about the moon that is super kid-friendly. The Moon: A Voyage Through Time (on through August 18, 2019) features an actual piece of the moon and a huge illuminated replica of the moon spanning two stories that you can lie under, plus many other fascinating moon-related displays and programming.
