Do you have kids that love to climb around like monkeys? (Does anyone have kids who don’t like this??) Active kids are happier, healthier kids, so if you’re looking for opportunities to let them run wild and play like monkeys more often, the lower mainland has lots of great options. Try these activities on for size and get those kids moving.

Obstacle Course Racing

Vancity OCR (obstacle course racing) in Port Coquitlam has birthday party options as well as kids and family programming. It is a gym co-founded by Allison Tai, who placed 2nd in World’s Toughest Mudder and came back from a significant injury after being struck by a vehicle while cycling. It’s got a wide variety of obstacles for kids and families to conquer to get in a good workout while they have fun.

Parkour

Penzer Action Park in Langley has 10,000 square feet of monkeying around space for parkour. There is a rubberized surface that will cushion falls and endless opportunities for this urban freestyle gymnastics. They have a course designed for pre-school kids and a larger course for bigger kids. They also have a basketball court and skateboard park for other fun ways to get the kids moving.

Join the Circus

Vancouver Circus School, located in New Westminster and North Vancouver, has drop-in and registered programs that children and families can enjoy together. These include trampolines, aerial programs and even juggling. There is a professional development program for kids who take their circus more seriously but also lots of options for those who are taking a more recreational approach.

Jump Around – On Trampolines

Extreme Air Park, in Langley, Richmond and New Westminster have trampolines galore for jumping around. Their Langley location boasts a 42,000 square foot facility including foam pits, a halfpipe, zero gravity basketball, volleyball and 3D dodgeball. They won’t be able to contain their excitement and, better, they won’t have to!

Indoor Climbing

Climb Base5 in Coquitlam is the lower mainland’s largest climbing facility, with climbing instruction programs specifically designed for kids, school break camps and birthday party options. They have 16000 square feet of climbing space to explore.

Gymnastics

Get bendy and build strength! There are lots of great choices to practice gymnastics in the lower mainland. Tumble while increasing flexibility, body awareness, and balance on the beams, rings, trampolines, and mats. Whether competitive or recreational, gymnastics is a fun way to monkey around.

Whether you decide to take to the mats with gymnastics, climb the walls, parkour, join the circus, jump on the trampoline, or explore the obstacle race course, there are so many chances to get your kids moving in the area. We’re going to bet that both you and your monkeys will love these ways to get active.
